For club organisers running a dressage day, or the dressage phase of an event.
Overview
Horsify gives each rider a digital score sheet that the judge's penciller fills in on a tablet or laptop. Horsify adds up the marks, applies any errors of course, works out the percentage and places the class for you. Riders can see their full score sheet once you publish the results.
Setting it up takes four things:
- A test chosen for each dressage class.
- A judge named on each ring of your schedule.
- A published running order.
- One tap on Auto-create score sheets.
After that, every ride has a sheet ready to open on the day.
Who uses this
Club admins, and staff with the Events area in their access (see Staff access: who can do what). Staff with Events at View can see the page, open sheets and download them; creating, auto-creating, reopening, locking and deleting sheets, and editing tests, need Manage. On the day, a score sheet can also be opened by its judge, if the judge on the ring is linked to their Horsify account (Step 2). Pencillers don't need their own login: you log the device in for them.
Where to find it
Open your event (Events in the organiser menu, then your event) and tap the Scoring card: Set up dressage tests, assign judges, and track score sheets. It shows for events with a dressage-style discipline (dressage, including para and western dressage, eventing, working equitation or combined training).
You can also get there from the Dressage button on the Event Scheduling page (once the schedule is published), or the Dressage scoring button on Event results.
The boxes across the top count your Score sheets, how many are Draft, Submitted and Locked, and the Available tests.
Step 1. Choose the test for each class
Open your event's Competition classes page, tap the Edit (pencil) button on a dressage class, and pick the test in the Dressage test box. Setting this lets Horsify build every score sheet for that class in one click.
- If you leave it on Riders bring their own test (no test set), Horsify tries to match a test from the class name. That only works when the name clearly matches a test in the list, so setting it is the safer choice.
- Rider's choice class? Put words like "own test" or "rider's choice" in the class name, so Horsify knows not to match one, and create those sheets by hand (see Step 5). Otherwise a class named after a test gets sheets for that test.
Using your club's own test? On the Dressage scoring page tap Manage tests, then New template. Give it a name, choose the discipline, the sheet type and the errors of course rule, then add each movement (its letters, the movement, directive ideas and coefficient) and the collective marks. Tap Create template to save it. The built-in system tests are read-only and New template starts from a blank form, so to use a changed version of a test, build it as a new template.
Step 2. Name the judge on each ring
On the Event Scheduling page, open Configure & Generate. Under Rings & Judges, name each ring and add its judge: where they sit (At, for example C) and their Judge name. If the judge has a Horsify account, also pick them in Registered judge (optional), so they can open their own sheets. For a panel, tap Add a judge: each judge on the panel gets their own sheet for every ride.
The judge flows through to the published running order and onto every score sheet for that ring, printed or on a tablet. Typed the wrong judge? After the draw is made, use Rings, judges & start times to change a ring's judge.
Step 3. Publish the running order
Generate the draw, check it, and publish it as you normally would (see Running an event, start to finish). Auto-create reads each ride's judge, arena, draw number and ride time from the published running order, so it won't run until there is one.
Step 4. Auto-create the score sheets
On the Dressage scoring page, tap Auto-create score sheets. Horsify shows you the plan before it creates anything:
- Each division is listed with its Test, Judge & arena, number of Rides and New sheets.
- Set on division means the test came from the class (Step 1). Matched by name means Horsify matched it from the class name. Tap Change if it's wrong.
- If Horsify can't tell which test a division rides, it asks you to pick one. Your choice is remembered for next time. Or choose Not a Horsify test (skip) and create those sheets by hand.
- Rides in a ring with no judge named still get a sheet. Name the judge on the ring and run auto-create again to fill it in.
- It's safe to run again after late entries or schedule changes: rides with a submitted sheet are left alone, and draft sheets are updated to match the current schedule (for example a new judge or time).
- Tick Let judges submit a sheet with marks missing only if you want to allow that.
Tap Create N score sheets to make them. They appear under Assigned score sheets, in the order they're ridden.
Step 5. Create a sheet by hand (rider's choice classes)
Use Create score sheet for a single ride:
- Pick the Session and Division to narrow the list, then the rider in Entry.
- Choose the Test template and the Judge. The judge list comes from the judges on your schedule rings, and from rider profiles marked as judges.
- Judge position is where the judge sits, for example C.
- Tick Allow incomplete submission only if the judge may submit with marks missing.
- Tap Create score sheet.
Scratched rides stay in the list but can't be selected.
Prefer paper on the day?
Print blank sheets (all shown entries) and Print all from schedule (judges per ring) create a draft sheet for every entry in the current filter (choose the test first, and for blank sheets the judge too) and download a printable PDF with a QR code on each sheet. Judge on paper, then photograph each sheet with PaperSync and the QR code puts the marks back on the right rider (see PaperSync).
On the day
- Log the judge's tablet or laptop in with your account (or the judge's own), then leave it logged in.
- Put a printed copy of the penciller's one-page guide (PDF) on each judge's table.
- Under Assigned score sheets, tap Open on the next ride. The penciller does the rest: see Dressage pencilling: a guide for pencillers.
- Tap Refresh to see sheets come in as Submitted, with the percentage and any errors of course or technical faults.
Internet:
- Live scoring needs stable internet.
- No internet, or patchy internet? Use offline mode. Open the event while there's signal so the sheets are saved on the device, and they upload once it's back online. Submitting needs a connection. See Offline dressage judging.
Running off a phone hotspot? The phone has to stay right beside the device. If its owner walks away in the middle of a test, the connection drops and the score sheet will freeze.
After the test: results
- When a sheet is submitted, Horsify places the class straight away. If a panel of judges scores the same test, a ride is placed once every judge on the panel has submitted, and the score is the average of the judges' percentages.
- Found a mistake? Tap Reopen on a submitted sheet, fix it, and submit it again.
- Tap Lock once a sheet is final. A locked sheet can't be reopened.
- PDF downloads a submitted sheet. Export CSV downloads every submitted and locked sheet for the event.
- Finalise and publish the results on Event results (see Event results management). Riders are told their results are in (or as each score comes in, if your provisional results are public), and can open the judge's full score sheet (see Dressage results).
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| "This event has no published schedule yet" | Publish the running order first (Step 3). |
| "No scheduled rides were found for this event" | Draw the running order, and check the Session and Division filters. |
| A division says it needs a test | Pick the test being ridden in the plan. It's remembered next time. |
| "No judge on this ring" | Name the judge on that ring in Scheduling, then run Auto-create again. |
| A rider isn't in the Entry list | They need to be entered in a competition class for this event. |
| The Scoring card isn't on the event page | It only shows for events with a dressage-style discipline. Check the event's disciplines. |
| A sheet was made by mistake | Delete removes a draft sheet. Submitted sheets can't be deleted. |
| A mistake is found after submitting | Reopen the sheet, unless it has been locked. |
