Overview
Horsify supports Extreme Cowboy Racing (ECR) as a fully recognised equestrian discipline, with a ready-made set of standard division names so you can set up a competition quickly. ECR appears everywhere disciplines are used, and entries are scored on horsemanship — highest score wins.
Who Should Use This Feature
Perfect For
- Extreme Cowboy Racing clubs and associations running competitions in Australia
- Multi-discipline organisers who include ECR classes alongside other disciplines
Prerequisites
- You must be an admin of your organisation
- The event's classes must use the Extreme Cowboy Racing discipline
Key Features
Discipline recognition
Extreme Cowboy Racing is a recognised discipline throughout Horsify. It appears in:
- The discipline selector when you create or edit an event
- The competition class discipline options
- The discipline-scoped class-name picker (see below)
- Results, where ECR entries are scored highest-score-wins
The draw
When Horsify generates a running order, riders within a named division are drawn newest entry first — the reverse-registration order EXCA uses. This is Horsify's standard behaviour for every discipline, not an ECR-specific rule, and it applies when you generate a schedule with Randomize draw switched off. Turn that option on and the order is shuffled instead.
You can always reorder the draw by hand after generating it.
Standard ECR divisions
Horsify holds the standard Australian ECR division catalogue so you don't have to type division names from scratch:
Pee Wee Pistols, Young Guns, Rookie Rider, Intro, Novice, Green Horse, Intermediate, Youth, Non-Pro, Ride Smart, Pro, and Open.
These are loaded onto the platform by Horsify, not seeded automatically. If the class-name picker offers nothing for an Extreme Cowboy Racing class, the catalogue hasn't been loaded — ask support to load it, or use the Extreme Cowboy Race event template below, which creates its divisions directly and doesn't depend on the picker.
Each carries its usual age or eligibility guidance — for example:
- Pee Wee Pistols — 3–6 years, may be led at a walk or trot. Club division only; no EXCA World Points.
- Young Guns — 7–11 years, and may ride up into Youth with parental permission.
- Rookie Rider — 12 and over, new to ECR, walk/trot only. Limited to three outings before moving up, and a club division only.
- Green Horse — develops horses new to ECR. A green horse can't be ridden in another division (other than Intro); once it has been, it can't come back to Green Horse.
- Youth — 12–17 years, eligible to ride up into Non-Pro and Pro with parental permission.
- Ride Smart — 55 and over, non-professional riders.
- Open — 12 and over, open to all divisions except Pee Wee Pistols, Young Guns, Rookie Rider, Intro and Green Horse.
These are guidance recorded against the standard division names — Horsify shows them to help you pick, and doesn't enforce them at entry.
How to Set Up an ECR Event
There are two easy paths.
Fastest: start from the Extreme Cowboy Race template
- On the Organiser Dashboard, start a New Event.
- Choose Start from a Template.
- Pick Extreme Cowboy Race. This creates the event set to the ECR discipline and seeds six starter divisions: Youth, Green Horse, Novice, Intermediate, Non-Pro, and Pro / Open.
- Adjust the seeded classes — rename, add or remove divisions, set fees and capacities — to match your event.
Manual: add ECR classes yourself
- Create the event and set its discipline to Extreme Cowboy Racing.
- On the Competition Classes page, click Add Class.
- Set the class discipline to Extreme Cowboy Racing, then choose a division name from the class-name picker — or, if it offers nothing (see the note above), choose Other (enter custom class name) and type the division yourself.
- Set the entry fee, capacity, age limits and other details, then save. Repeat for each division you're running.
