Overview
Don't want to miss an event opening near you? Event Alerts let you tell Horsify where you are and what you ride, and we'll email you when new events open that match — filtered by location and distance, the disciplines you care about, and how often you'd like to hear from us.
Set it once and forget it: no refreshing the calendar, no fear of missing entries closing. When a matching event is published, it lands in your inbox — Horsify checks for matches roughly every four hours, so Immediately means "on the next check", not the same minute.
Good to know: it's completely up to you how wide to cast the net. Choose a tight radius around home and just your disciplines for a short, relevant list — or leave the filters open to hear about everything in your area.
Setting Up an Alert
Your alerts live in the Event Notifications card on your Rider Dashboard (/rider/dashboard).
- Click Add (or Add Your First Preference). The Get Notified form opens.
- Location — give the preference an optional name (like "Home — South East QLD"), enter your postcode, and choose a distance: 10, 25, 50, 100, 200 or 500 km, or Any distance to turn distance filtering off altogether — you'll hear about every matching event, wherever it is. If you leave the name and postcode blank, the alert is listed as Anywhere.
- Disciplines — tick the disciplines you want to hear about. Prefer everything? Use Select All, or simply leave them all unticked to include every discipline.
-
Email frequency — choose Immediately, Daily, Weekly or Bi‑Weekly. Every option sends one bundled email rather than one per event:
- Immediately — on the next check after a matching event opens.
- Daily — one email a day, sent early evening Australian eastern time (mid-evening in New Zealand).
- Weekly — one email each Monday, at the same time of day.
- Bi‑Weekly — one email on the first and third Monday of each month, at the same time of day.
- Save Preference. Your alert is now live.
One thing to check first: these emails are sent under your Event Updates email preference. If you've turned that off in Rider Profile → Communication Preferences, your alert will match events but send you nothing.
Managing Your Alerts
Each alert appears as a card summarising exactly what it's watching for — its name, the disciplines (or All Disciplines), the distance, and how often you'll be emailed.
For each alert you can:
- Edit — change the location, distance, disciplines or frequency.
- Pause — stop the emails temporarily without deleting the alert (it shows a Paused badge; use Enable to switch it back on).
- Delete — remove it for good.
You can set up as many alerts as you like — for example, one tight radius around home for your main discipline, and a wider one for the big championships you'd travel to.
Good to Know
- Your first email covers everything already open. It includes every matching event open in the next 12 months, not just ones published since you set the alert. After that you'll only hear about each event once, when it first matches.
- Leaving all disciplines unticked means "all disciplines" — a quick way to hear about everything nearby.
- Every frequency bundles matches — one email covering the period, rather than one per event.
- A venue with no map location can't be distance-matched. If an event's venue has never been geocoded, it won't reach an alert that has a radius set — only one set to Any distance.
- Pause, don't delete, if you're just having a quiet season — your settings are kept for when you're ready again.
Frequently Asked Questions
How will I be notified? By email, at the frequency you choose. They go out under your Event Updates email preference, so if that's switched off in your Rider Profile you won't receive them.
How soon does "Immediately" actually arrive? Horsify looks for new matches roughly every four hours, so an Immediately alert reaches you on the next check rather than the instant the event is published — usually within a few hours.
What counts as "near me"? Events within the distance you set around your postcode. Widen the radius to hear about events further afield.
Can I get alerts for just one discipline? Yes — tick only the disciplines you want. To hear about everything, leave them all unticked or use Select All.
Can I have more than one alert? Yes, as many as you like — handy for a close‑to‑home radius plus a wider one for events you'd travel to.
How do I stop the emails? Pause the alert to stop temporarily (and Enable later), or Delete it to remove it entirely.
Is this the same as watching an event? No. Watching follows a specific event, venue or club for changes. Event Alerts surface events in your area that you haven't been told about yet.
