Discipline-Scoped Class Name Picker

Overview

The competition class editor shows a filtered dropdown of standard class names based on the currently selected discipline. When an organiser is adding or editing a competition class, the class name picker only shows class name suggestions relevant to the selected discipline (for example, jumping heights for a Show Jumping class, or eventing grades for an Eventing class). An "Other" option is always available for custom or non-standard class names.

This reduces data entry errors, enforces naming consistency across events, and speeds up class setup for common disciplines.

Who Should Use This Feature

Perfect For

  • Event organisers setting up competition classes for any standard equestrian discipline
  • Club administrators wanting consistent class naming across all events
  • Multi-discipline event managers working with multiple discipline types in one event

Prerequisites

  • You must be an admin of your organisation
  • The event must have a discipline selected before the class name picker filters correctly

How It Works

When an organiser selects a discipline for a competition class:

  1. The class name picker loads standard class names for the chosen discipline
  2. A filtered dropdown displays only the relevant names for that discipline
  3. The organiser can select from the list or choose "Other" to type a custom name

For example, selecting Show Jumping shows the standard heights - 60cm, 70cm, 80cm, 90cm, 1.00m, 1.10m and so on up to Grand Prix. Most common disciplines (such as Eventing, Hunter, Reining, Campdraft and Working Equitation) ship with their own standard class names.

Some disciplines don't come with a built-in list yet. For those, the picker simply shows the "Other" option so you can type your own class name.
