Competition Class Horse Nominations

Overview

For class-based events, you can require riders to nominate a specific horse when they enter. When horse nomination is switched on, each rider must pick one of their registered horses (or enter an unregistered "Other" horse by name) as they choose their classes during registration. This is essential for disciplines such as dressage, show jumping and eventing, where the horse–rider combination is judged together and needed for draws and results.

Who Should Use This Feature

Perfect For

  • Dressage, show jumping and eventing organisers who judge horse–rider combinations
  • Competition managers who need horse details for draws, running orders and results
  • Clubs enforcing nominated-horse policies for safety or registration compliance

Prerequisites

  • You must be an admin of your organisation
  • The event must use Horsify's own registration (not an external listing)
  • Riders need a horse in their Horsify profile to nominate a registered horse, or they can enter an unregistered horse by name

Turning On Horse Nomination

Horse nomination is an event-level setting — you switch it on once for the event, and it then applies to the classes riders enter.

  1. Open the event and go to Edit.
  2. In the Registration section, find Nominations.
  3. Tick Riders nominate a horse for each class they enter.
  4. (Optional) Once enabled, two limits appear beneath it:
    • Most nominations per order — the most horses a single order (checkout) can nominate. Leave blank for no limit.
    • Most classes per horse per day — how many times one horse can be nominated on a single competition day. For example, EA dressage allows a horse a maximum of 3 tests per day. Leave blank for no limit.
  5. Save the event. Riders will now see a horse selector as they enter your classes.

Leave the toggle off for simple events that don't have competition classes.

What the Rider Sees

When horse nomination is on and a rider selects a class during registration:

  1. A horse nomination panel appears for that class.
  2. The rider picks one of their registered horses, or chooses Other Horse and enters the horse's name (and optionally breed and sex). See Other Horse Nomination Support.
  3. The nominated horse is recorded against that class entry.

Viewing Nominated Horses

  • Nominated horses appear in the registration detail view for each entry.
  • They're shown in the Entry List and included in entry-list exports.
  • They also appear on confirmation emails, invoices and PDF receipts.
