Event Series & Championships

Overview

An Event Series lets you group related events together under one banner — a summer championship, a winter league, a regional tour, or any run of events that belong together. You give the series a name, discipline and date range, describe how it works, and riders and the public get a single page for the whole championship with a standings leaderboard.

This page is the complete guide to what the series feature does today, how to set one up, and where its current limits are.

Who Uses This

  • Organisers and committees create and manage series, set the rules, and describe how points are awarded.
  • Riders and the public browse your series and open its leaderboard to follow the championship.

Creating a Series

  1. Go to Event Series (from the main navigation) to see the list of series.
  2. Click Create Series.
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Series Name — e.g. "Summer Dressage Championship 2026".
    • Description — the rules, prizes, qualification criteria and anything else riders should know.
    • Organisation — the club or organisation running the series.
    • Discipline — the primary discipline (Dressage, Show Jumping, Extreme Cowboy Racing, etc.).
    • Start Date and End Date — the window the series runs across.
  4. Optionally set Series Rules:
    • Minimum Events Required — the fewest events a rider must compete in to qualify.
    • Maximum Scoring Events — a cap on how many events count towards the final total (useful for "best 5 of 8" style formats).
    • Points Formula — a plain-text description of how you award points (e.g. "100 for 1st, 90 for 2nd…"). This is a note that explains your system to riders; it is not a calculator.
  5. Click Create Series.

After saving you land on the series detail page. Use Edit Series to change any of the above later. In edit mode you can also toggle Series is Active — inactive series are hidden from public view.

What Riders and the Public See

The series detail page

The series page shows summary cards for Duration, Discipline, Total Events and Status (Active / Inactive), followed by your Series Rules (if you set any) and an Events in Series table. Each event row lists its sequence number, name, date, venue, a points multiplier and whether it's a qualifying event.

The series leaderboard

A View Leaderboard button opens the championship standings page. It presents a top-three podium and a full standings table — position, rider, horse, total points and number of events completed.

Adding events to a series

On the series detail page, organisation admins see an Add an event to this series panel. Pick one of your organisation's events, give it a sequence number, an optional points multiplier (a final worth double points is 2), and mark whether it's a qualifying event, then click Add event. Each event row in the table has a remove action; removing an event stops its results counting the next time you recalculate standings.

Only events belonging to the series' own organisation can be added, and only that organisation's admins can create, edit, or manage a series.

How points and standings work

The leaderboard is built from finalised results — but only when you ask for it:

  1. Enter results for a series event and record each combination's Series Points on the result (the Series Points field on the results screen).
  2. Finalise the results. Scratched results never count.
  3. On the series detail page, click Recalculate standings.

The recalculation works per rider/horse combination:

  • Each result contributes its Series Points × the event's points multiplier; a combination's results at one event sum into that event's total.
  • When Maximum Scoring Events is set, only the combination's best N event totals count ("best 5 of 8").
  • When Minimum Events Required is set, combinations that have completed fewer events are left off the leaderboard entirely.
  • Equal totals share a position, and the next position skips (standard competition ranking).

Recalculation replaces the whole standings table each time, so it is always safe to re-run — after a corrected result, a detached event, or a rule change.

The Points Formula field remains a plain-text note to riders describing how you award points; the numbers that drive the leaderboard are the per-result Series Points your results team enters.

A brand-new series shows an empty leaderboard ("No Standings Yet") until finalised results exist and standings have been recalculated.

Separately from event series, Horsify also keeps an organisation season leaderboard built automatically from finalised results across the year — see Running an Event, Start to Finish.

Tips for Running a Series

  • Spell out the rules in the description. Riders rely on your written explanation — state exactly how points are earned, how many events count, and how ties are broken.
  • Recalculate after every results day. Standings only move when you click Recalculate standings, so make it the last step of finalising results.
  • Keep requirements achievable. Demanding too many qualifying events limits who can win.
  • Spread events across the calendar and region so more riders can take part.
  • Announce the series early and point riders to the series page.
