Event Alerts Near You

Event Alerts Near You

Category: Rider Features

Overview

Don't want to miss an event opening near you? Event Alerts let you tell Horsify where you are and what you ride, and we'll email you when new events open that match — filtered by location and distance, the disciplines you care about, and how often you'd like to hear from us.

Set it once and forget it: no refreshing the calendar, no fear of missing entries closing. When a matching event is published, it lands in your inbox.

Good to know: it's completely up to you how wide to cast the net. Choose a tight radius around home and just your disciplines for a short, relevant list — or leave the filters open to hear about everything in your area.

Setting Up an Alert

Your alerts live in the Event Notifications card on your Rider Dashboard (/rider/dashboard).

The "Event Notifications" card on the Rider Dashboard, headed "Get notified about new events in your area", showing an empty state with a bell icon, the text "No notification preferences set", and an "Add Your First Preference" button

  1. Click Add (or Add Your First Preference). The Get Notified form opens.

The "Get Notified" dialog headed "Receive updates about events you care about", with a Location Preferences section (an optional Preference Name field, a Postcode field, and a "Distance (km)" dropdown set to "Within 50 km"), a Disciplines section with Select All / Clear All and a checklist of disciplines, and an Email Frequency section with Immediately, Daily, Weekly and Bi-Weekly options

  1. Location — give the preference an optional name (like "Home — South East QLD"), enter your postcode, and choose a distance (for example, Within 50 km).
  2. Disciplines — tick the disciplines you want to hear about. Prefer everything? Use Select All, or simply leave them all unticked to include every discipline.
  3. Email frequency — choose Immediately, Daily, Weekly or Bi‑Weekly. A weekly or fortnightly digest bundles matches into one tidy email.
  4. Save. Your alert is now live.

Managing Your Alerts

Each alert appears as a card summarising exactly what it's watching for — its name, the disciplines (or All Disciplines), the distance, and how often you'll be emailed.

The Event Notifications card showing a saved preference "Home — South East QLD" with "Agricultural Shows, Arena Sort, Barrel Racing +33 more", "Within 50 km", and "Weekly digest", each with Edit, Pause and Delete buttons

For each alert you can:

  • Edit — change the location, distance, disciplines or frequency.
  • Pause — stop the emails temporarily without deleting the alert (it shows a Paused badge; use Enable to switch it back on).
  • Delete — remove it for good.

You can set up as many alerts as you like — for example, one tight radius around home for your main discipline, and a wider one for the big championships you'd travel to.

Good to Know

  • Alerts are about new events opening near you — they let you discover events to enter, separate from updates about events you've already entered or are watching.
  • Leaving all disciplines unticked means "all disciplines" — a quick way to hear about everything nearby.
  • Digest frequencies bundle matches — a Weekly or Bi‑Weekly alert sends one email covering the period, rather than one per event.
  • Pause, don't delete, if you're just having a quiet season — your settings are kept for when you're ready again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I be notified? By email, at the frequency you choose (immediately, or as a daily, weekly or fortnightly digest).

What counts as "near me"? Events within the distance you set around your postcode. Widen the radius to hear about events further afield.

Can I get alerts for just one discipline? Yes — tick only the disciplines you want. To hear about everything, leave them all unticked or use Select All.

Can I have more than one alert? Yes, as many as you like — handy for a close‑to‑home radius plus a wider one for events you'd travel to.

How do I stop the emails? Pause the alert to stop temporarily (and Enable later), or Delete it to remove it entirely.

Is this the same as watching an event? No. Watching follows a specific event, venue or club for changes. Event Alerts tell you about brand‑new events opening in your area.
