Sign In with a Passkey
Category: Rider Features
Overview
A passkey lets you sign in to Horsify with the fingerprint, face, or PIN you already use to unlock your phone or computer — no password to type, no code to wait for, and nothing to remember.
Passkeys are also more secure than a password: they can't be guessed, reused, or phished, because a passkey only works on the real Horsify site and never leaves your device. And because unlocking a passkey already proves it's you, signing in with one counts as two‑factor security on its own — so you won't be asked for a separate verification code.
Good to know: a passkey is tied to the device you create it on. Add one on each device you regularly use (your phone, your laptop), and keep the email sign‑in code as your backup for any device that doesn't have a passkey yet.
Signing In with a Passkey
On the Horsify sign‑in page (Sign In tab), you'll see a Sign in with a passkey button near the top.
- Click Sign in with a passkey.
- Your device shows its normal unlock prompt — Face ID or Touch ID on an iPhone, iPad or Mac, Windows Hello on a PC, your fingerprint or screen lock on Android, or a security key if you use one.
- Confirm with your face, fingerprint or PIN, and you're straight in. You don't even type your email first — your device offers the passkeys it has saved for Horsify.
If a device doesn't have a passkey yet, just use one of the other options on the same page:
- Email me a sign‑in code — the default, passwordless method. We email you a 6‑digit code (no password needed).
- Prefer a password? Sign in with your password — switches to the classic email‑and‑password form.
On a club's own web address: if your club uses its own custom domain, tapping Sign in with a passkey may briefly take you to the Horsify sign‑in page to complete the passkey, then bring you back automatically. That short hop is normal.
Adding a Passkey to Your Account
You add passkeys from your account's Security Settings. You need to be signed in already (using your email code or password) the first time.
- Open Manage Your Account, then open Security Settings (its card is labelled "Manage two-factor authentication (2FA) and passkeys").
- Find the Passkeys card. Before you've added any, it reads "You haven't added any passkeys yet."
- Click Add a passkey.
- Your device shows its "Create a passkey?" prompt — confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, your fingerprint/PIN, or a security key. (This prompt comes from your device, not from Horsify.)
- That's it. The new passkey appears in the list, labelled Passkey with the date you added it.
Each passkey you add appears as its own row with an Added date. To delete one, click Remove next to it — it's removed straight away, so only remove a passkey you no longer want to use on that device.
Tip: add a passkey on every device you sign in from. A passkey created on your laptop won't automatically be on a brand‑new phone unless your phone's own passkey service (like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager) syncs it across your devices.
Device and Browser Support
Passkeys work on up‑to‑date browsers and operating systems — recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on modern phones, tablets and computers. If a device is too old to support passkeys, Horsify tells you "This device or browser does not support passkeys" — just sign in with an email code instead.
To use a passkey you must have set up your device's unlock (Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, fingerprint or a screen‑lock PIN), because that's what secures the passkey.
Troubleshooting
- "No passkey was found for this site on this device." This means you haven't created a passkey on the device you're using yet. Sign in with your email code, then add a passkey from Security Settings → Passkeys → Add a passkey.
- The passkey button doesn't do anything / says it's not supported. Update your browser to the latest version and make sure your device unlock is set up, then try again.
- New phone or computer? Passkeys are per‑device. Add a fresh one on the new device (or rely on your platform's passkey sync). In the meantime, the email sign‑in code always works.
- Lost a device? Sign in on another device, open Security Settings → Passkeys, and Remove the passkey that belonged to the lost device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I still need a password? No. You can run your account entirely passwordless — a passkey on your own devices, plus the emailed sign‑in code as a universal backup. A password remains available if you prefer it.
Is a passkey safer than a password? Yes. It can't be phished or reused because it only works on the genuine Horsify site, and the private part of the passkey never leaves your device.
Will I still be asked for a 2FA code? No. Unlocking the passkey with your face, fingerprint or PIN already counts as a second factor, so a passkey sign‑in skips the separate code step.
Can I use one passkey on all my devices? Each device has its own passkey. Some platforms (iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager) sync passkeys across your own devices automatically; otherwise, add one per device.
What if I'm on someone else's computer? Use the Email me a sign‑in code option rather than creating a passkey on a device that isn't yours.
