Stripe Account Management - Comprehensive Feature Guide
Category: Organiser
Overview
Horsify uses Stripe to process payments for your events, store items, and riding lessons. To accept online payments you connect a Stripe account to your organisation. Once connected, money from registrations is paid out by Stripe directly to your nominated bank account, and you can view your balance, payments, and payouts inside Horsify.
Connecting a Stripe account is a one-time setup. Most organisers create a brand-new Stripe account through Horsify's guided onboarding — you do not need to have used Stripe before.
Who Can Use This Feature
- Organisation admins can connect a Stripe account and view the payment and payout screens.
- You need admin rights on the organisation to connect, disconnect, or manage Stripe.
Before you start, have handy:
- Your organisation or sole-trader details
- Your Australian Business Number (ABN), if you have one
- The bank account (BSB and account number) where you want payouts to land
- A contact email address
Connecting Stripe
You connect Stripe from your organisation's settings, not from a separate payments menu.
- Open your Organisation page.
- Click Edit Organisation.
- Scroll to the Payment Integration section.
- Click Connect Stripe (Express).
- Complete the Stripe onboarding steps that open.
What "Connect Stripe (Express)" does
This launches Stripe's secure, Stripe-hosted onboarding to set up a Stripe Express account linked to your organisation. During onboarding Stripe asks for:
- Your business or sole-trader details and ABN
- Your identity details (and ID documents if requested)
- The bank account for receiving payouts
If you already have a Stripe account, you can sign in to it during the onboarding steps instead of creating a new one. When onboarding is finished, Stripe returns you to Horsify and your organisation shows Stripe Connected.
You can begin creating paid events as soon as onboarding is complete. Stripe may continue verifying your details in the background; if anything else is needed, Stripe will prompt you.
What Horsify can and cannot do
- ✅ Process payments for your events and lessons
- ✅ Show your balance, payments, and payouts
- ✅ Process refunds you request
- ✗ Move your money to any account other than the bank account you set in Stripe
- ✗ Change your Stripe bank details
- ✗ Close your Stripe account
Managing Your Connected Account
Once Stripe is connected, two screens are available from your organisation.
Stripe Connect Dashboard
From the Payment Integration section (or the Stripe Connect page), open the Stripe Connect Dashboard. It has two tabs, both provided directly by Stripe and embedded in Horsify:
- Payments — the list of payments taken through your account, with amounts, status, and refund history.
- Payouts — your available and pending balance, and the record of payouts sent to your bank.
Stripe Account Management
The Stripe Account Management screen shows Stripe's embedded account-management panel, where you can review and update your Stripe account details, verification status, and outstanding requirements.
Because these panels come straight from Stripe, they always reflect your live account. Anything Stripe asks you to complete (extra ID, business documents) is done in these panels or the Stripe onboarding flow.
Payouts
Stripe pays your registration income to the bank account you set up during onboarding.
- Your balance, upcoming payouts, and payout history appear on the Payouts tab of the Stripe Connect Dashboard.
- Payout timing follows Stripe's standard Australian schedule for your account. New accounts may have a short delay on the first payout.
- To change your payout bank account, use Stripe directly. Horsify does not store or edit your bank details.
Fees
How Stripe charges you
Stripe charges a processing fee on each transaction (a percentage plus a small fixed amount per payment). International and American Express cards are charged at Stripe's higher rates. These rates are set by Stripe, and Stripe's tax invoices for its fees are available in your Stripe account.
Who pays the processing fee
Whether the customer pays the processing fee or your organisation absorbs it is not set on this screen. It is controlled by the Processing Fees setting on the Edit Organisation page:
- Pass fees to customer (default): the processing fee is added on top of your prices at checkout.
- Absorb fees: the fee is deducted from your revenue and the customer pays only the listed price.
GST
Whether your prices are treated as GST-inclusive depends on your organisation's GST registered flag, also set on the Edit Organisation page. See Tax Invoices for how invoices and GST are handled.
Disconnecting Stripe
On the Edit Organisation page, the Payment Integration section shows Stripe Connected with a Manage Stripe Account link and a disconnect option. Disconnecting stops Horsify from taking new payments through that account; your Stripe account itself continues to exist in Stripe.
Troubleshooting
"Connect Stripe (Express)" doesn't open, or onboarding fails to load Allow pop-ups for horsify.com.au, try a different browser, and disable any VPN, then retry from the Edit Organisation page.
Onboarding started but the account still shows as not fully verified Stripe verification can take a little time. Re-open the Stripe Account Management screen and complete any outstanding requirements Stripe lists there.
Payout hasn't arrived Check the Payouts tab to confirm the payout was sent, allow a couple of business days for your bank, and confirm your bank details in Stripe are correct.
Higher fee on some payments International and American Express cards are charged at Stripe's higher standard rates. This is normal and set by Stripe.
For account, verification, or payout problems, contact Stripe directly. For problems connecting Stripe to Horsify, contact Horsify support.
